The African-American Writer's Guide to Successful Self-Publishing

The navigating in the world of self-publishing can be difficult to say the least. There are a variety of places from Lulu.com, iuniverse.com, and xlibris.com, among others, who will publish your work for you for either a small or large fee, depending upon the size and details involved in your book. But how do you know what services you need? My book reveals many helpful tips as a result of my own self-publishing journey of my first two books.

In it some of the things you'll learn are:
  • How to Make Money with Your Self-Published Book
  • How to Sign Contracts for Large Advances
  • How to Get a Literary Agent
  • How to Craft your ideas
  • How to Format your Manuscript
  • How to Capture your Market
  • How to do Internet/Electronic Publishing
  • How to Write Query Letters and Winning Proposals
  • How to Market and Promote Your Book for Little or No Money
  • How to Sell Your Book Nationally

The Goode Sisters
(iuniverse.com, 2002)
The Goode Sisters (a novel)

When they were little girls, Kamilah and Denise were always at each others' throats. The fact that they were sisters didn't matter to either one of them. Years later, as they meet at Mama's funeral, they realize not much has changed. Denise is still living her life, hating the ghetto she came from while Kamilah refuses to leave it.

The Goode Sisters explores what happens when two strong African-American women dig up dirt on each other, name call and fight in the name of jealousy and deceit. But a deep, dark family secret threatens to pull both sisters into a sleazy, sordid underworld that they may not be ready for.

The two women continue to hash out feelings on everything from the boardroom to the bedroom, to how hard it is to still find a good man. This sometimes humorous novel explores some reasons why 'sistas' just can't seem to get along.

Tender Headed:Poems for Nappy Thoughts I Left Uncombed
(iuniverse.com, 2002)
TeNDeR HeADeD: Poems For Nappy Thoughts I Left Uncombed

Poems that are emotional and powerful lace the pages of this debut poetry anthology. The often difficult plight of Black women is spoke of as if some form of folklore, but the real truth is, these painted words are the account of the author's own experiences as well as the experiences of her sisters.

From lost love to lost and regained faith, TeNDeR HeADeD, covers the wide spectrum of human emotions and how the insanity of one woman's lifetime can influence many.
